I have the feeling that you installed the version 5.8 of perl.
Currently we have qualified McStas 1.8 with perl <= 5.6. Removre
version 5.8 first. You can get version 5.6 at:

<a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://www.ill.fr/tas/mcstas/package/windows/ActivePerl-5.6.1.635-MSWin32-x86.msi"><http://www.ill.fr/tas/mcstas/package/windows/ActivePerl-5.6.1.635-MSWin32-x86.msi></a><br>

Scilab 3 should work instead of Scilab 2.7, and you may similarly get
it from <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://www.ill.fr/tas/mcstas/package/windows"><http://www.ill.fr/tas/mcstas/package/windows></a>.<br>

If you can not solve that, please send us more information on your
installation and error reports. <br>
You may as well try our McStas Live-CD (burn ISO, boot, simulate) at
<a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://fys-lin-1.risoe.dk/public/PeterWillendrup/mcstas-cvs/0_McKnoppix_current.iso"><http://fys-lin-1.risoe.dk/public/PeterWillendrup/mcstas-cvs/0_McKnoppix_current.iso></a><br>

and our McStas web-service (use any browser, and simulate examples),
demo at <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://fys-lin-1.risoe.dk/cgi-bin/menu.cgi"><http://fys-lin-1.risoe.dk/cgi-bin/menu.cgi></a>. It may be
installed locally to serve as a computing web-based shared facility
(requires a firewall protection for security reasons). Ask us for more
if you are interested.<br>

the McStas 1.8 package in a Win XP environment. When I issued the
command in a dos window:</font></p>

-N5 vanadium_example.instr rot=0,10"</font>

<p><font face="Arial" size="2">I got the following error message:</font>

<p><font face="Arial" size="2">"mcrun: Could not run simulation. at
C:\mcstas\lib/tools/perl/mcrunlib.pl line 150."</font>
</p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="2">I tried to use the mcgui to do the
same scan but still got the same error message. Anybody got a clue to
help me out here?</font></p>
